Methods of CO2 transport. Pipelines today operate as a mature market technology and are the most common method for transporting CO2. Gaseous CO2 is typically compressed to a pressure above 8 MPa in order to avoid two-phase flow regimes and increase the density of the CO2, thereby making it easier and less costly to transport. CO2 also can be transported as a liquid in ships, road or rail tankers that carry CO2 in insulated tanks at a temperature well below ambient, and at much lower pressures. 4, record 1, English, - CO2%20transport

De son côté, le transport du dioxyde de carbone via des canalisations ne pose pas véritablement de gros problèmes. En effet, dans le cadre d'activités de récupération assistée de pétrole, ce gaz largement inerte est déjà transporté par gazoduc. Aujourd'hui, il existe environ 3000 km de canalisations, essentiellement aux États-Unis où cette technique permet, depuis 1980, de transporter 50 millions de tonnes de CO2 chaque année. Précisons que dans le cas d'un transport par gazoduc, le gaz carbonique est à l'état supercritique, à une pression supérieure à 74 bars.
