CONT

Gephyrocercal Caudal Fin. It is a very specialized type of caudal fin which is also known as bridge caudal fin. Generally, they look like the isocercal fin but the fins are reduced to vestiges. In this case, the caudal lobe is truncated where hypurals of the spinal column are lacking. These types of fins are found in the pearlfishes (Carpus), Flerasfer and Orthagoriscus.

An internally and externally symmetrical tail (caudal) fin

CONT

Polypteriformes (bichirs and reedfish) possess a secondarily derived, externally symmetrical diphycercal caudal fin with several notable characteristics, including the inclusion of pterygiophores originating from the dorsal fin; this organization differs significantly both from other actinopterygians and from the ancestral heterocercal caudal fin shape ...

CONT

A homocercal tail is a caudal fin composed of two lobes of equal proportion. Homocercal tails are the most common caudal fin type in fish but can come in many symmetrical shapes. A homocercal tail is contrasted with a heterocercal tail which has unequal lobes.

CONT
