Arginine vasopressin deficiency (central diabetes insipidus) is a lack of the hormone vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) that causes excessive production of very dilute urine (polyuria).

CONT

There are two types of arginine vasopressin disorders, namely arginine vasopressin deficiency, AVP-D, (formerly known as central DI) and arginine vasopressin resistance, AVP-R (formerly known as nephrogenic DI), and each has congenital and acquired causes. Arginine vasopressin disorder is caused by a problem with vasopressin production in the pituitary gland (deficiency) or the action of vasopressin in the kidneys (resistance).

A vertical needle incorporated into an OMNI [omnidirectional]/ILS [instrument landing system] indicator to show deviation from the selected VOR [very high frequency omni-directional range] course or radial.

The course deviation indicator will remain centered as long as the airplane is actually on the radial indicated on the bearing selector. If the airplane is off course to the right of the radial, the CDI will swing to the left of centre. If the airplane is off course to the left of the radial, the CDI will swing to the right of centre. In other words, the CDI points in the direction in which the radial lies.
