English

Subject field(s)
  • Molecular Biology

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie moléculaire
DEF

Record 2 2012-07-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

Single-stranded DNA that is synthesized from an RNA template by the enzyme reverse transcriptase.

OBS

It may be radioactively labeled and hybridized with cellular DNA, and the kinetics of hybridization may be used to measure the number of copies of specific genes in various types of cells. Such probes are also useful in DNA recombination and cloning techniques.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 3 2011-05-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biotechnology
CONT

A cDNA map shows the positions of expressed DNA regions (exons) relative to particular chromosomal regions of bands. (Expressed DNA regions are those transcribed into mRNA). cDNA is synthesized in the laboratory using mRNA molecule as a template; base-pairing rules are followed (i.e. an A on the mRNA molecule will pair with a T on the new DNA strand). This cDNA can be mapped to genomic regions.

DEF

A collection of cloned DNAs in the form of cDNA (complementary DNA) synthetized from a complex mRNA [messenger RNA] population and inserted into a suitable cloning vector.

  • Banques (Médecine)
  • Génétique
  • Biotechnologie
DEF
