COHERENT RADAR [14 records]

Record 1 2006-06-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

A type of radar that extracts additional information about a target through measurement of the phase of echoes from a sequence of pulses (or an extended observation interval, as in an FM-CW radar).

OBS

The phase information may be used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, ... to estimate the velocity of the target through the Doppler effect ... or to resolve the location of the target in a synthetic aperture radar.

OBS

coherent radar: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télédétection
DEF

Subject field(s)

  • Spacecraft
DEF

A radar system where the antenna beamwidth is controlled by the physical length of the antenna.

CONT

For a real aperture radar, the physical antenna length must be considerably longer than the wavelength in order to achieve higher azimuth resolution. Obviously, it has a limit at which the dimension of the antenna is not realistic to be put onboard an aircraft or a satellite.

OBS

real-aperture radar; RAR: term and abbreviation officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

Key term(s)
  • non-coherent radar
  • non coherent radar

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Engins spatiaux
DEF
