COLD WALL [6 records]

Record 1 2023-03-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oceanography
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
CONT

A permanent thermocline exists beneath the stream sloping upward from the right to the left side of the current. This thermocline separates the warm water of the Gulf Stream from the cold slope water and the boundary is often referred to as the cold wall or north wall. The north wall makes it easy to identify the position of the Gulf Stream in satellite infrared images by observing the strong sea surface temperature gradient.

Domaine(s)
  • Océanographie
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
DEF

Record 2 2007-07-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment (Chemistry)
  • Semiconductors (Electronics)
  • Physics of Solids
DEF

A machine (usually a CVD [chemical vapour deposition] machine) in which the wafers are heated directly rather than through the walls like in a furnace.

OBS

This can be done by shining a light on the wafers, exposing them to electromagnetic energy, or mounting them on heated plates. The walls of the reactor are then at a lower temperature than the wafers.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Équipement (Chimie)
  • Semi-conducteurs (Électronique)
  • Physique des solides
DEF

Réacteur, normalement de dépôt chimique en phase vapeur, dans lequel les plaquettes de semiconducteurs sont chauffées directement plutôt que par des parois, comme celles d'un four.

Record 3 2006-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Thermal Insulation
DEF

The chilly discomfort experienced by a person in a building as his or her body radiates heat to the cold surface of an uninsulated wall.

CONT

Most people don't realize that body heat will radiate to the cold walls, ceilings or floors, at a rate uninfluenced by the room temperature. We feel cold, and may even turn up the thermostat, thereby using more fuel. Insulation overcomes this "cold wall effect".

French

Domaine(s)
  • Isolation thermique
CONT

L'isolation supprime l'effet des parois froides des murs en contact avec l'extérieur et vous assure des températures intérieures très homogènes.
