... there are extreme cases in which salt shows on the surface and may therefore be observed in high or medium resolution images. There are numerous sections capped with iron crusts (cuirasses) ... The explanation still persists that the tabular crusts at the top of the profiles were formed by the vertical rise of the iron sesquioxides and by hardening under the rays of sun. In reality, the iron oxides do not migrate vertically from the bottom to the top of the profiles, and the crust is not formed at the soil-atmosphere interface. The latter was exposed by erosion after it has developed within a pedological profile under a forest landscape. 3, record 12, English, - cuirasse

The freezing system uses a highly effective heat transfer technology for rapid crust-freezing of raw protein-laden products. A low temperature plate filled with recirculating refrigerant begins the freezing process immediately to set the product's shape. With a firm bottom surface, the product has enough integrity to be transferred to a spiral or tunnel freezer where it can be deep frozen to 0°F. Including investment and consumable costs, mechanical freezing can be as low as one-tenth the cost of comparable cryogenic crust-freezing systems. 2, record 29, English, - crust%20freezing

The "CASCADE" superCONTACT freezing tunnel (mechanical refrigeration) uses two thin conveyors (throw-away polyethylene film) enabling the individual Quick Freezing of food products, especially if they are wet, fatty or sticky and without any risk of the products sticking together. This new process enables ultra fast freezing in two stages: product surface crust freezing on film conveyors level N° 1, followed by deep core freezing on the lower level film conveyors. Earth's outermost, rigid, rocky layer is called the crust. It is composed of low-density, easily melted rocks; the continental crust is predominantly granitic rock, while composition of the oceanic crust corresponds mainly to that of basalt and gabbro. Analyses of seismic waves, generated by earthquakes within Earth's interior, show that the crust extends about 50 km (30 miles) beneath the continents but only 5-10 km (3-6) miles beneath the ocean floors. 4, record 31, English, - Earth%27s%20crust

In composition, the Earth is made of three nested spheres. At the center of the Earth, a body of intensely hot iron and nickel forms the core. A less dense and much larger middle sphere is made of materials rich in iron, magnesium and calcium comprises the mantle. At low temperatures (especially during clear weather) a temperature gradient appears in the snow, bringing about phenomena which render the snow or individual layers more fragile and loosen the bonds between crystals. The snow in these layers is called crusted snow, white frost or liquid snow. It can be recognised by its dryness, and on a slope it flows and looks like crystals of sugar. Layers of compressed snow lying on the fragile layer of white frost may tear off and trigger an avalanche. Dangerous layers of crusted snow are a very frequent phenomenon in cold winters with little snow. 4, record 44, English, - crusted%20snow

2, record 45, French, - cro%C3%BBte
