Su objetivo es reducir el coste administrativo al simplificar las operaciones. El período habitual es un mes aunque en el norte de Europa suelen ser ciclos de 10 a 15 días. Cuando hay muchos clientes con consumos bajos, el período puede ser de dos meses. En este caso, se hacen dos grupos de clientes para repartir el trabajo y la entrada de ingresos, por ejemplo, en las compañías de teléfonos y eléctricas.
