La cyprotérone est une molécule stéroïde qui a démontré 2 propriétés distinctes en clinique: d'une part, une propriété antiandrogénique: la cyprotérone bloque la fixation de la dihydrotestostérone, le métabolite actif de la testostérone, aux récepteurs spécifiques de la cellule prostatique cancéreuse [...] D'autre part, une propriété progestative et antigonadotrope: la cyprotérone exerce une rétroaction négative sur l'axe hypothalamo-hypophysaire en inhibant la sécrétion de LH, ce qui entraîne la diminution de la production de testostérone testiculaire.
