CONT

The genetic syndrome of hybrid dysgenesis (and hence, P element transposition) is regulated genetically and in a manner that depends on maternal inheritance from P strain females. Experiments in our laboratory implicated the smaller 66kD P element protein in the so-called maternal "P cytotype" repression of transposition. A series of biochemical and genetic experiments are underway to probe the mechanistic basis of maternal repression by P cytotype.
