Early ear drop. In corn, the ear is meant to stay sitting upright on the plant until the crop reaches physiological maturity, also known as black layer. Then, once the plant has hit black layer, the ear shank will start to deteriorate and the ear will droop and dry down to harvest moisture.

OBS

Premature ear drop in corn can be a significant issue when the ear shank begins to collapse, and the ear drop occurs before the plant reaches maturity.

NOTE Several methods can be used to measure this angle e.g., Dunlap method, Magilligan method, Thazos method, Budin-Chandler method. Nowadays, this measurement is more easily obtained by computerized tomography.

Inertial Navigation System. To operate a typical system, power is applied and the INS is activated. As the gyro's spin up and the platform is aligned with the aircraft's attitude, a keyboard is used to advise the system of the aircraft's present position, normally in terms of latitude and longitude, and magnetic variation.
