Timing of feedback refers to whether the feedback occurs immediately after an error or is delayed. Immediate feedback is not always more beneficial than delayed feedback but is almost always better than no feedback....

... immediate feedback may cause interference between correct and incorrect responses, whereas the latter may tend to be forgotten if the feedback is delayed.

Interference with a subject's hearing of his own speech, typically by using special headphones that impose a delay of 200 to 300 milliseconds on the transmission of the sound. In the ordinary person such a delay produces marked distortion in speech, while in some schizophrenic patients the delay has remarkably little effect on speech patterns.
