Deoxyribonucleic acid barcoding was developed as a fast, cost-effective, and standardized method for species identification. The cytochrome oxidase subunit I is utilized commonly as the marker of choice for barcoding, but different DNA barcodes or a set of DNA barcodes may be preferred for different groups. Reliable identification based on DNA barcoding depends on comprehensive reference libraries against which unknown specimens are identified based on similarity. Although not intended for this purpose, DNA barcoding has also been used for species discovery. 4, record 1, English, - deoxyribonucleic%20acid%20barcoding

The core concept of DNA barcoding is simple—a taxonomically unknown specimen can be identified by sequencing and then comparing a particular DNA region (a barcode) against a reference database containing these same DNA regions for known taxonomy. DNA metabarcoding is a combination of high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and DNA barcoding. Using the same reference databases, this particular approach builds on traditional DNA barcoding but enables simultaneous high-throughput multi-taxa identification by using the extracellular and/or total DNA extracted from complex samples containing DNA from different origins. 3, record 3, English, - deoxyribonucleic%20acid%20metabarcoding

When studying evolution, DNA is especially important in its application to identifying and separating organisms into species. However, DNA is a fragile molecule, and it degrades over time. For most fossil species, there is essentially no hope of ever acquiring DNA from their fossils, so answers to questions about their appearance, physiology, population structure, and more may never be fully answerable. For more recently extinct species, scientists have, and continue to, extract ancient DNA (aDNA) which they use to reconstruct the genome of long-gone ancestors and relatives. 4, record 4, English, - ancient%20deoxyribonucleic%20acid

Deoxyribonuclease (DNAse) agar actually has DNA in it. Deoxyribonuclease is an exoenzyme excreted from the cell which will break the DNA down into smaller molecules. There are 2 kinds of DNAse agar that can be used. 1) The first medium has no indicator, but is does require HCl (hydrochloric acid) reagent to be added after growth has occurred on the plate. Without DNAse enzyme, the HCl precipitates out the undestroyed DNA. The rest of the agar with the remaining DNA, which binds to HCl will have turned cloudy. Around the growth area, if the bacterium has made DNAse and destroyed the DNA, there will be clear zones seen. 2) DNAse agar with the indicator methyl green can be used. In this medium, when the DNA in the medium is hydrolyzed by the bacterial DNAse enzyme, the pieces of cut DNA release from binding to methyl green, and you will see a yellowish/orange zone around the growth area. OBJECTIVE: To identify the presence of the DNAse enzyme. 3, record 9, English, - deoxyribonucleic%20acid%20agar

During DNA replication, each of the two strands that make up the double helix serves as a template from which new strands are copied. The new strand will be complementary to the parental or "old" strand. Each new double strand consists of one parental strand and one new daughter strand. This is known as semiconservative replication. When two DNA copies are formed, they have an identical sequence of nucleotide bases and are divided equally into two daughter cells. 2, record 38, English, - deoxyribonucleic%20acid%20replication

There is a theoretical correlation between time and DNA degradation, although differences in environmental conditions complicates things.

5, record 76, French, - activation%20digitale%20non%20destructrice

Highly repetitive DNA takes its name from the very large number of copies of the basic reassociating sequence present. Generally this sequence is rather short. In one example, the fast component consists of a sequence only 340 bp long, present in 500,000 copies per genome. Because of the short length of the reassociating unit, sometimes this is also referred to as simple sequence DNA. 2, record 83, English, - highly%20repetitive%20DNA
