Zinc oxide-eugenol cement ... is a low-strength base used as a temporary cement filling in the event that the patient will return at a later date for a semi-permanent restoration. Les ciments à l'oxyde de zinc-eugénol ont toujours été considérés comme étant les plus neutres, quant à leurs effets sur la pulpe dentaire. C'est pourquoi ces matériaux ont souvent été utilisés comme matériau témoin dans les études sur la biocompatibilité des ciments et des matériaux de restauration avec la pulpe dentaire.
