In blade testing, static loads may be useful for evaluating stiffness and ultimate strength of a turbine blade. However, in practice, the load on a wind turbine blade varies constantly and to evaluate fatigue resistance of the blade, a cyclical load may be applied in large test facilities.

Dans le cas d’une machine [éolienne] régulée au décrochage et dans des conditions de fonctionnement proches du décrochage, une modification rapide de la vitesse du vent (rafale) peut initier un mouvement d’oscillation en torsion, combinant les effets du décrochage dynamique (dû à la variation instationnaire de l’angle d’incidence), de la force centrifuge et de l’élasticité intrinsèque de la pale. La machine peut ainsi se trouver soumise à un phénomène entretenu, rarement divergent mais pouvant affecter la tenue en fatigue de la pale.
