Hyperspectral sensors are passive sensors that acquire simultaneous images in many relatively narrow, contiguous and/or non-contiguous spectral bands through the ultraviolet, visible and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. These systems have been traditionally used in laboratory settings but now scientists can acquire hyperspectral information via aircraft and satellite platforms.

An instrument which may display bearing and distance to a navigation aid, magnetic heading, track/course and track/course deviation.

A flight director is a highly sophisticated system that electronically collects the information provided by a number of instruments, feeds this information into a computer and presents it in two visual displays. The two instruments that provide this visual display are a horizontal situation indicator (HSI) and an attitude director indicator (ADI). Usually the flight director installation is combined with an autopilot system. The entire package is then known as a flight control system.

Different manufacturers give other names to the components of their systems. The HSI is sometimes called the "pictorial navigation indictor" (PNI) and the ADI is sometimes called the "flight command indicator."

Inspiré du «Habitat Suitability Index (HSI)», élaboré aux États-Unis, l'indice de qualité de l'habitat (IQH) est un modèle mathématique qui permet d'évaluer, pour une espèce faunique, la valeur en tant qu'habitats (milieu dans lequel une espèce animale donnée trouve, en quantité suffisante, les éléments biologiques et physiques nécessaires à sa survie et à sa reproduction) d'une série de peuplements forestiers. L'IQH ne sous-entend pas une certaine densité de population pour chaque classe d'habitat, c'est-à-dire que l'IQH ne donne pas une projection de la densité d'individus possible que l'on peut trouver dans un peuplement, mais il détermine la valeur de ce peuplement en termes d'habitats pour certaines espèces.
