Even if the data was to be stored and interchanged as an HTML document, the current HTML standard (HTML v3.2) is inadequate for processing business e-forms that need to be interchanged in typical business transactions. For example, HTML 3.2 does not support common e-form functions like data type verification, field value validation, calculated values, masks, etc. and must rely on custom developed CGI scripts to provide these capabilities.

Même si les données devaient être stockées dans le document HTML puis échangées, la norme HTML actuelle (HTML v3.2) ne permet pas l'échange de formulaires électroniques types de gestion. Par exemple, la version actuelle (HTML 3.2) n'offre pas de fonctions standard telles la vérification du type de données, la validation de la valeur des champs, les valeurs calculées, les masques, etc., pour lesquelles il faut adapter des scripts CGI (Common Gateway Interface).
