perforé, percé, piquage : désigne les trous effectués dans la marge des timbres pour en faciliter la séparation. C'est l'opération de perforation qui transforme le timbre non dentelé en timbre dentelé. En général les trous effectués sont ronds. dentelé, dentelure, perforation : c'est la perforation des bords du timbre dont le but est de faciliter la séparation des timbres. On raconte qu'un employé des chemins de fer Irlandais eut le premier l'idée de denteler les timbres, après avoir vu à l'œuvre une perforatrice de ticket.
