MODIFYING AGENT [4 records]

Record 1 2016-03-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Processing of Mineral Products
  • Mineral Processing (Metallurgy)
  • Chemical Engineering
CONT

Flotation modifiers include several classes of chemicals as described below. ... Alkalinity regulators such as lime, caustic soda, soda ash, and sulfuric acid are used to control or adjust pH, a very critical factor in many flotation separations.

OBS

pH regulators: Substances used in flotation processes to control the hydrogen-ion concentration.

Key term(s)
  • pH regulating agent
  • pH modifying agent

French

Domaine(s)
  • Préparation des produits miniers
  • Minéralurgie (Métallurgie)
  • Génie chimique
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Food Additives
  • Food Industries
CONT

Starch modifying agents are used to chemically change one or more of the characteristics which govern the properties of starch. [Starches] with high temperature stability are required for heat sterilized products. Similarly, starches must withstand severe mechanical agitation and pH variation. By using a starch modifying agent the starch manufacturer is able to tailor his product to the application in question and to maintain the palatability and appearance of the foods.

OBS

The term "starch modifier" is used to define "1-octenyl succinic anhydride".

Domaine(s)
  • Additifs alimentaires
  • Industrie de l'alimentation
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Food Additives
DEF

A food additive used to improve the appearance or feel of a food.

CONT

For instance, canned tomatoes, canned potatoes and canned apple slices tend to become soft and fall apart, unless the texturizer calcium chloride, for example, or its salts are added, which keep the product firm.

Key term(s)
  • texturiser
  • texturising agent

French

Domaine(s)
  • Additifs alimentaires
DEF

DEF

In flotation, chemicals which increase the specific attraction between collector agents and particle surfaces, or conversely which increase the wettability of those surfaces.

CONT

Modifying Agents. The chemical and physical additives discussed in this section are variously described in flotation literature as regulators, conditioners or more specifically as depressants, activators, wetting agents, flocculants and dispersants. The practical requirement from the operator's viewpoint is the ability of the additive to sharpen selectivity as between the mineral species floated and that (or those) left in the pulp. ... The regulating chemicals used in flotation stimulate the desired surface activity of specific minerals in the pulp. Modifying agents therefore either reinforce or make possible the adsorption of collectors in the case of floating species, or aid hydration if they are active depressants.

OBS
