The U.S.-EU agreement - the «New Transatlantic Agenda» - signed in Madrid in December 1995 contained a program of cooperation in a number of areas including: promoting democracy and stability in Eastern Europe; reducing trade barriers; fighting international crime et terrorism; controlling environmental pollution; and stemming international refugee flows.
