Il existe des jets coronaux très fins, ayant la forme de colonnes cylindriques de 7 000 km de section, dressées à peu près verticalement au dessus de la photosphère. On les observe surtout au voisinage des pôles où on les appelle "plumes polaires". On les associe à des lignes de force ouvertes sur le milieu interplanétaire.
