CONT

This term is applied to an agent who has authority to manage all the company's business within his territory; to appoint other agents, and to settle claims. A General Agent usually has charge of the company's business for a province or provinces and is sometimes referred to as a Provincial Agent or even Provncial Manager. This term should not be confused with the commonly referred to (although possibly misused) term of general agent or general insurance agent meaning an agent for general insurance (i.e. fire, automobile, casualty) as opposed to an agent for life insurance. The correct definition of general agent is as stated, i.e. one who manages all the insurance company's business in his territory.
