An open-meshed fabric streched across the middle of the court and over which the ball is hit. It is a little lower at the middle (three feet high; 0.915 m) than at the ends (three and a half feet; 0.06-0.07 m).

OBS

The term "(tennis) net" is also used figuratively to designate that which the actual net represents to a team or to a player, as attested by the ample phraseology provided below. Related term: fortress.
