Fonctionnement du détecteur en tension constante. Dans ce mode, les électrons sont collectés en permanence au moyen d'une tension fixe appliquée entre les deux électrodes. Le courant qui en résulte est appelé courant de base. Celui-ci diminue lors du passage d'un soluté possédant une affinité pour les électrons. Mais la sensibilité du détecteur n'est constante que dans un faible domaine. Si la concentration du soluté est élevée, rapidement la plupart des électrons disponibles sont captés, la diminution du courant n'est alors plus proportionnelle à la concentration du soluté dans la cellule. Par ailleurs ce mode entraîne également la collecte d'ions négatifs formés à partir de la capture d'électrons.
