Venue du Mexique en décembre 1994, la crainte des financiers s'est propagée dans plusieurs pays d'Amérique latine : les fuites de capitaux se sont multipliées au Mexique, en Argentine et au Brésil, les cours en Bourse ont fortement baissé.
