Le thrombus cardiaque est un thrombus mural. Les différentes possibilités évolutives sont les mêmes que pour les thromboses veineuses, y compris la possibilité de migration, source d'embolies artérielles. L'organisation peut se faire d'une façon particulière par un phénomène de hyalinisation: les éléments figurés du sang disparaissent du thrombus qui n'est plus formé que de fibrine dégradée d'aspect hyalin.
