THYMIDINE [5 records]

Record 1 2012-09-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medication
DEF

An enzyme which is induced in cells affected with DNA viruses and which catalyses the phosphorylation of thymidine to thymidylic acid, in the process of DNA synthesis.

CONT

In papovavirus-infected cells the induced enzyme is cellular in origin, but the thymidine kinase induced by Herpesvirus is specified by the virus Genome, and differs in several properties from the cell enzyme.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Médicaments
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biochemistry
  • Genetics
CONT

In another application of gene therapy we have used an adenoviral vector that carries the gene for herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk). Cells expressing HSV-tk will convert the anti-viral drug ganciclovir (GCV) to a form that is toxic to rapidly dividing cells. Using this adenoviral vector we have repeatedly shown robust tumoricidal effects in a variety of animal models of CNS tumor and will soon take this treatment to phase I clinical trials. We are extending this work to the manipulation of the CNSs immune response to tumors using adenoviral vectors that carry several cytokine genes.

CONT

DEF

A pyrimidine nucleoside, C5H9O3C5H4N2O2, in which the base is thymine and the sugar desoxyribose, and which is obtained by the partial hydrolysis of DNA.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 5 1993-03-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
CONT

Blastogenesis of lymphocytes or thymidine incorporation following stimulation of a specific antigen are in vitro tests that can be performed in a patient with a negative skin test, when the antigen is known, to determine whether the defect is an inability of the skin to react to lymphokines or an inability of T cells to produce lymphokines.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
CONT
