Tidal gravitational fields lead to differential deflection of light bundles. The size and shape of their cross sections are therefore changed. Since photons are neither emitted nor absorbed in the process of gravitational light deflection, the surface brightness of lensed sources remains unchanged. Changing the size of the cross section of a light bundle therefore changes the flux observed from a source. The different images in multiple-image systems generally have different fluxes. The images of extended sources, i.e. sources which can observationally be resolved, are deformed by the gravitational tidal field. 3, record 2, English, - tidal%20gravitational%20field

In a galaxy, roughly once every ten thousand years, a star gets disrupted by the strong tidal forces of [a] central supermassive black hole. An ebb-tidal delta is a complex of shoals and channels on the seaward side of the inlet. It consists of sand that is intercepted from the longshore transport system and is carried seaward and deposited by ebb-tidal currents, where it is subsequently modified by incident waves and ambient tidal currents. Ebb deltas exhibit a variety of forms dependent on the relative magnitude of wave and tidal energy of the region as well as geological controls. 6, record 14, English, - ebb%2Dtidal%20delta

2, record 14, French, - delta%20de%20jusant

Tidal swamps develop in the zone of influence of tides, at the highest reach of tides and wave influence during storms. These are often thickets that can tolerate a short period of flooding. Some forested swamps exist where there is minor influence of high tides, but not long enough to kill the trees. An example is a tidal swamp forest on the levees of rivers where they join marine waters. 1, record 36, English, - tidal%20swamp

1, record 36, French, - mar%C3%A9cage%20%C3%A0%20mar%C3%A9e

Between the high and low tide marks lies a strip of shoreline that is regularly covered and uncovered by the advance and retreat of the tides. This meeting ground between land and sea is called the "intertidal." 14, record 41, English, - intertidal%20zone
Record number: 41, Textual support number: 1 OBS
To many geomorphologists, the term "foreshore" is considered synonymous with the intertidal zone. These definitions are compared with the legal definitions of the "foreshore" as exist in Britain under the three different property law regimes; English, Scottish and Udal law. The legal definitions and many of the geomorphological definitions are based on tidal data. The differences between the observed tides at a tide gauge and on a beach at a distance from the gauge are considered. It is concluded that the term "foreshore" has a very specific legal meaning in each property law regime, therefore the authors propose that the term "foreshore" should be used to relate to the legally defined area of the coast and, unless specifically referring to the foreshore, scientists should use the term "intertidal." 15, record 41, English, - intertidal%20zone

6, record 65, French, - tsunami
Record number: 65, Textual support number: 1 CONT
7, record 65, French, - tsunami
Record number: 65, Textual support number: 1 OBS
8, record 65, French, - tsunami
Record number: 65, Textual support number: 2 OBS

Tidal energy can be converted to mechanical and subsequently electrical form in several ways. The most common is to utilize a single natural basin that experiences tidal flow. The mouth of the basin is blocked by a dam that contains sluice gates and hydroelectric turbogenerators. In operation, water enters the basin through open sluice gates. At high tide the gates are closed. When the tide ebbs sufficiently water is released through the hydroturbines to generate electricity. 1, record 73, English, - tidal%20energy

2, record 84, French, - renouvellement%20de%20l%27eau%20par%20les%20mar%C3%A9es
