A tilt table test is used to evaluate the cause of unexplained fainting (syncope). ... For a tilt table test, you begin by lying flat on a table. Straps are put around your body to hold you in place. After about 15 minutes of lying flat, the table is quickly tilted to raise your body to a head-up position - simulating a change in position from lying down to standing up. The table will then remain upright for up to 45 minutes, while your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored. This allows doctors to evaluate your body's cardiovascular response to the change in position.

A field test for finding weak layers in soft snow (typically new snow).

Shovel tilt test ... To test for weak layers near the top of the snowpack, cut a square column with sides about 30 centimetres (12 inches) wide. Pick up the top 30-40 centimetres (12-16 inches) of the column on your shovel, tilt the shovel blade to about 15° and tap the bottom of the shovel with your hand, gently at first, then harder. Weak layers within the snow block will show up as smooth fractures.

Do not confuse the "burp test" with the "burp the baby test" which can be described as follows: "... completely isolate a column. Les couches fragiles du bloc seront ainsi révélées et prendront l'aspect de ruptures uniformes.
