The total water potential, which describes the energy of the water contained in the plant can be estimated from leaf water potential (LWP) measurements, by the use of the pressure bomb in salinity studies. The major components of LWP are leaf osmotic potential (LOP) and leaf turgor potential (LTP). Leaf water potential and leaf osmotic potential can be measured directly by the use of the pressure bomb and the vapor pressure osmometer, respectively. The LTP can be estimated by the equation LTP = LWP - LOP. 2, record 1, English, - leaf%20turgor%20potential

The leaf cells contain various organic and inorganic solutes, which determine the leaf osmotic potential (OP). OP is generally lower (more negative) than LWP [leaf water potential] and the difference between the two is turgor potential. Turgor is lost (null value) when LWP=OP ... Leaf turgor is associated with cellular growth and function. When turgor becomes null cells collapse and the leaf wilts, though it is not dead. Stomata are responsive (among other factors) to turgor, closing to reduce transpiration. 2, record 2, English, - turgor%20potential

Figures 2 and 3 show average leaf water potential and osmotic potential, respectively, of the five cultivars. Turgor potential can be estimated by subtracting osmotic potential from leaf water potential. 3, record 2, English, - turgor%20potential
