La gravure parfaite et le métal à l'éclat soutenu laissent supposer que la pièce n'a pas circulé; seule la patine ou l'oxydation doit indiquer l'état d'ancienneté de la pièce.

OBS

Cette désignation reflète un état de conservation et non une qualité de frappe. En Europe, les frappes fleurs de coins (dites «en qualité fleur de coin» ou «de qualité fleur de coin») sont réalisées hors circuit industriel. Elles sont frappées à cadence réduite, à partir de deux coins neufs et spécialement polis, sur des flans ayant subi un traitement destiné à éviter toute oxydation et à les rendre brillants.

OBS

Pour les collectionneurs, indépendamment de la qualité de la frappe, toute pièce qui conserve son lustre original peut être qualifiée de «hors-circulation»; sinon, on la dira «hors-circulation terne, en partie lustrée, etc.». Dès qu'une pièce porte la marque de manipulation, elle ne peut plus être considérée comme «hors-circulation».

Unified and American National screw thread standards for screws, bolts, nuts, and other threaded parts consist of six series of threads and selection of special threads that cover nonstandard combinations of diameter and pitch. In general, the unified screw threads are limited to three series: coarse (UNC), fine (UNF), and extrafine(UNEF). A 1/4-inch.-diameter thread in the UNC series has 20 threads/in., while in the UNF series it has 28. In the unified and American National standards, the coarse thread series (UNC and NC) is recommended for general industrial use on threaded machine parts and for screws and bolts. Because a coarse thread has fewer threads per inch than a fine thread of the same diameter, the helix angle is greater, and the thread travels farther in one turn. A coarse thread is preferred when rapidity and ease of assembly are desired, and where strength and clamping power are not of prime importance.

Threads are designated by standardized notes. Under the unified system, threads are specified by giving in order the nominal diameter, number of threads per inch, the initial letters such as UNC or UNF that identify the series, and class of thread (1A, 2A, and 3A or 1B, 2B and 3B). Threads are considered to be right-hand and single unless otherwise noted; therefore the specification for a left-hand thread must have the letters LH included.
