The uncovered writer is prepared to take greater risks (in the sense of larger potential cash losses) than the conservative writer in the hope of making larger profits. For this reason "naked writers" must at all times maintain a minimum margin deposit with their broker, based on the market price of the underlying security and exercise price of the option.
