Wheelchair Games: An international program of sports competition similar to the Olympic Games that is held for paralyzed individuals confined to wheelchairs.

OBS

The events include archery, basketball, bowling, table tennis, swimming, and track and field events such as the discus throw and shot put. The games are intended not so much for individuals competing against each other as for individuals competing against their handicaps.

In 1984, "The 7th World Wheelchair Games" were held in Stoke Mandeville, England, from July the 23rd to August 1st. Information provided by the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association.

En 1984, les «VIIe Jeux mondiaux en fauteuil roulant» se sont tenus à Stoke Mandeville, Angleterre, du 23 juillet au 1er août. Le Comité International Olympique (CIO) demande de respecter le nom des Jeux Olympiques tel qu'établi dans la Charte olympique, soit d'utiliser la majuscule «O». Par contre, les règles d'écriture de la langue française recommandent d'utiliser «Jeux olympiques», graphie préconisée par Sport Canada.
