C'est un solide blanc très peu soluble dans l'eau [...]. On l'emploie en peinture, sous le nom de «blanc fixe» [...]. Le sulfate de baryum purifié [...] est employé en radiologie à cause de son opacité aux rayons X. Il permet d'obtenir en radioscopie et en radiographie l'image des cavités digestives.
