Il s'agit ici d'un terme général qui s'applique à des machines comportant différents types de broyeurs : broyeurs à tambour (Nicholson Wool Fuel Processor), broyeurs à rouleaux (Morgard-shammar Shredder Type SK), broyeurs à marteaux (Solid Waste Demolisher), broyeurs à fléaux (Stirrup Hog). Ces broyeurs seront généralement montés sur une remorque et installés à une jetée où ils travailleront à poste fixe, ou encore ils seront équipés d'une flèche d'alimentation et montés sur un camion ou un porteur pour ramasser les résidus abandonnés en bord de route ou même sur le parterre de coupe.
