[Case packing.] The wraparound concept is that of the "tighpack" case, literally meaning that the products are packed very tightly in the case .... The operation of the wraparound packer is somewhat like that of side-load case packers. The product feeds by conveyor, and is staged into case loads. At the same time, a case blank is indexed from the magazine into loading position. The product load is transferred onto the case blank, and the case is folded around the load. Adhesive is applied to the flaps and they are folded to seal the case.

En technique wrap-around (...) les produits sont tout d'abord accumulés à l'entrée de la machine puis ordonnés en lots. Ce lot, une fois constitué, est transféré dans un système de chargement (...) En wrap-around vertical, une découpe carton est positionnée au-dessus des puits de conformation, puis le lot est déposé mécaniquement sur la découpe. L'ensemble découpe/lot est alors descendu dans le puits où s'effectue la mise en forme et le pliage des rabats verticaux. Ensuite, sont effectuées les opérations de pliage des rabats horizontaux, de taquage et de pressage (...) Beaucoup de machines de mise sous carton exploitent le procédé d'encollage par adhésif thermo-fusible (hot-melt), la fermeture pouvant s'effectuer également par ruban auto-adhésif.

En dépit de son nom anglais, la technique du "wrap-around" est d'origine française.
