La Seconde Guerre mondiale est un conflit armé à l'échelle planétaire qui dura de septembre 1939 à août 1945. Elle consista en la convergence, à partir du 3 septembre 1939, d'un ensemble de conflits régionaux respectivement amorcés le 18 juillet 1936 en Espagne (la Guerre civile espagnole), le 7 juillet 1937 en Asie (la Guerre sino-japonaise), et le 1er septembre 1939 en Pologne (Campagne de Pologne), générant ainsi un conflit planétaire qui opposa schématiquement deux camps - les Alliés et l'Axe - et s'acheva le 2 septembre 1945.
