Manueti (1958) a illustré dans un schéma le cycle vital du bar rayé à partir de l'œuf jusqu'à 2 ans. Les stades majeurs de développement comprennent : 1. les stades larvaires : larves vésiculées (yolksac larvae), larves avec repli cutané des nageoires (finfold larvae) et larves au stade postrepli (post-finfold larvae), de l'éclosion jusqu'à 35-50 jours, c'est-à-dire de mai-juin à juin-juillet; 2. le stade juvénile : de la fin du stade larvaire (environ 20 mm) jusqu'à la maturité sexuelle; 3. les adultes : à partir de la maturité sexuelle.
