BIOFISICA [3 records]

Record 1 2020-02-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
  • Animal Biology
  • Plant Biology
DEF

A periodic endogenous change occurring in all living organisms, operating independently of daily rhythmical changes in the environment but normally synchronized to the 24-hour light/dark cycle.

CONT

... circadian rhythms are widely held to be endogenous, or innate, to living systems, governed by shadowy physiological mechanisms known as biological clocks.

OBS

Such rhythms occur in the leaf, flower, and growth movements of plants and the changes in body temperature and fluctuations in hormone secretion in animals.

PHR

circadian rhythm high and low points

French

Domaine(s)
  • Morphologie et physiologie générale
  • Biologie animale
  • Biologie végétale
DEF

Record 2 2011-08-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Environmental Management
  • Areal Planning (Urban Studies)
DEF

The observed physical and biological cover of the earth's land, as vegetation or man-made features.

CONT

Land cover is the physical material at the surface of the earth. Land covers include grass, asphalt, trees, bare ground, water, etc.

OBS

Strictly speaking, it describes vegetation and man-made features, and omits bare rock and water, although, in practice, these elements are often included under this term.

OBS

Land cover is distinct from land use despite the two terms often being used interchangeably. Land use is a description of how people utilize the land and socio-economic activity - urban and agricultural land uses are two of the most commonly recognised high-level classes of use.

OBS

land cover: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Science Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gestion environnementale
  • Aménagement du territoire
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Research
  • Biological Sciences
CONT

Biomedical research is an approach used towards solving medical problems. It deals with beliefs or theories which can be proven or disproven through observations and experimentation.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Recherche scientifique
  • Sciences biologiques
DEF

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Investigación científica
  • Ciencias biológicas
DEF
