CONT

One or another type of northern coniferous forest (or, occasionally, its broad-leafed consociations of Birch or consocies of Aspen) occupies most of the northernmost belt of forested terrain.

DEF

Unité constitutive d'une association, comportant une espèce dominante caractéristique.

OBS

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Ecología (Generalidades)
  • Biología vegetal
DEF

Comunidad clímax con predominio de una especie.

CONT

Estudio de consociación de distintas especies forrajeras tropicales.

Record 2 2011-06-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ecology (General)
  • Plant Biology
DEF

An ecological community that suggests a climax in stability and permanence but is not primarily the product of climate.

OBS

Proclimax is a general term which includes all the communities that simulate the climax to some extent but lack the proper sanction of the existing climate. It thus includes subclimax, preclimax, and postclimax, as well as disclimax.

Key term(s)
  • pro-climax

French

Domaine(s)
  • Écologie (Généralités)
  • Biologie végétale
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ecology (General)
  • Plant Biology
DEF

The final or stable community in a series of successive vegetation states that is self-perpetuating and in dynamic balance with the physical and biotic environment.

OBS

climax vegetation community; mature vegetation community; climax plant community: terms used by Parks Canada.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Écologie (Généralités)
  • Biologie végétale
DEF

OBS

groupement végétal climacique; groupement végétal à maturité; communauté végétale climacique; communauté végétale à maturité : termes en usage à Parcs Canada.

Record 5 2004-05-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Biology
  • Ecology (General)
  • Biogeography
CONT

Whether you believed in the monoclimax required by dogmatic interpretations of Clements' writings, or whether you took the pragmatic view that there could be many local climaxes in any climactic region (so-called polyclimax theory) you tacitly assumed that succession was a process of social organization; that it led to an organized entity which you called a society.

OBS

monoclimax theory: The hypothesis that in any one environment there can be only one climax community, in contrast to the hypothesis that there can be several (polyclimax theory).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie végétale
  • Écologie (Généralités)
  • Biogéographie
CONT
