CONT

The contract [for the carriage of goods by road] shall be confirmed by the making out of a consignment note ... in three original copies signed by the sender and by the carrier. ... When the goods which are to be carried have to be loaded in different vehicles, or are of different kinds or are divided into different lots, the sender or the carrier shall have the right to require a separate consignment note to be made out for each vehicle used, or for each kind or lot of goods.

Whereas the term "waybill" designates a document used for several modes of transport, "consignment note", when not qualified by the words "rail" or "air" (as in "air consignment note"), designates specifically the title of transport adopted internationally at the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (C.M.R.).

A document issued by the shipowner to the shipper, acknowledging that he has received the goods in the condition stated therein, and that the goods are in his possession and at his risk.

When the boat note is signed by the cargo officer aboard the ship, it becomes a "mate's receipt." With many shipping companies it is the practice to give an official "mate's receipt" irrespective of the fact that a boat note may be provided by the shipper. Modern practice is to present a copy of the shipping note as the boat note, which when endorsed, becomes the "mate's receipt."

The mate's receipt is qualified or foul if it contains adverse comments on the condition of the goods, and clean if it does not.

En ella se especifican los requisitos mínimos para el transporte internacional de animales, como la ventilación, el espacio, el empaquetado, la alimentación y otras condiciones para reducir al mínimo el riesgo de heridas, deterioro en su salud o maltrato. En esta reglamentación se presta atención a la seguridad y al bienestar de los animales.

Los requisitos, establecidos por IATA, para transportar animales vivos vía aérea son los siguientes: Los animales deben mostrar buenos signos de salud y encontrarse en condiciones de llegar a su destino final. El embalaje debe ser limpio, a prueba de derrames y fugas, de tal forma que permita el manejo seguro del animal transportado. Los artículos adicionales, como comida, que acompañen a la expedición, deben incluirse en el peso sujeto a cargos. Debe confirmarse una reserva de espacio en el vuelo y en los posibles vuelos de conexión hasta el aeropuerto de destino. Los animales vivos no deben consolidarse con otras mercancías. Generalmente se requieren documentos sanitarios y certificados de vacunación contra la hidrofobia.
