An infrequently observed faint, white circular arc or complete ring of light with a radius of about 39° and centred on the antisolar point.

OBS

It is usually in the form of a separate outer ring around an anticorona. A strong theoretical argument can be advanced to suggest that this phenomenon is a true fogbow.

CONT

Crepuscular rays are an optical effect produced when light goes through a dusty atmosphere. They are rays of light that appear to diverge outward from the setting sun, and are visible only when the atmosphere contains a certain amount of dust particles.

OBS

Crepuscular rays ... Most pronounced just after sunset, they appear to fan out, although they are actually parallel. In rare cases, they extend across the entire sky. Anticrepuscular rays appear to converge at the point opposite the sun.

rayons crépusculaires : Bandes d'un bleu foncé qui rayonnent à partir du Soleil et traversent la lueur pourpre pendant le crépuscule. Ce sont les ombres de nuages situés à l'horizon ou derrière l'horizon.

Si, dans la basse atmosphère, quelque chose, comme une colline ou un nuage, bloque une partie de la lumière solaire, on voit alors apparaître ce qui reste de lumière comme des rayons. Ceux-ci, intensifiés par la diffusion de la lumière dans l'air situé entre l'obstacle et l'observateur semblent diverger directement du soleil. On les appelle rayons crépusculaires ou échelle de Jacob en Angleterre. Ils peuvent apparaître autant au lever qu'au coucher du soleil, lorsque celui-ci est bas à l'horizon ou même sous l'horizon. On peut voir de tels rayons surtout quand l'atmosphère contient assez de particules de poussière ou de brume de sorte que la lumière solaire des régions sans ombre est diffusée directement vers l'observateur. En réalité, ces rayons sont parallèles, mais à cause de l'effet de parallaxe, on dirait qu'ils convergent vers le soleil. Cet effet rappelle les rails d'un chemin de fer qui semblent converger quand on les regarde au loin. La couleur de ces rayons est souvent dans les teintes de rouge ou jaune, tout simplement parce que le bleu a déjà été diffusé par les molécules d'air.

OBS

[On les appelle «rayons anticrépusculaires» lorsque] ces ombres traversent entièrement le ciel et deviennent à nouveau visibles au voisinage du point antisolaire.

gegenschein or counterglow ... is caused by reflection of sunlight by small dust particles that lie in the plane of the solar system. It is possible that these particles are part of a tail of the earth, extending away from the sun like the tail of a comet. The gegenschein is one of several skyglows that also include the zodiacal light and the zodiacal band.

Et les rayons anti-crépusculaires? Ces rayons sont un peu le contraire des [rayons crépusculaires]. En fait, ils prennent leur origine du soleil et traversent le ciel vers l'horizon opposé. On voit le faisceau à cause d'obstacles qui ombragent partiellement le soleil. Ce faisceau semble converger vers le point anti-solaire, i.e. l'endroit sur l'horizon opposé à l'endroit où le soleil se couche. Ils sont, comme les premiers, parallèles, mais ils semblent converger vers le point anti-solaire, encore à cause de l'effet de parallaxe.
