Par analogie avec la fontaine de Vaucluse, d'où sort la Sorgue [...] résurgence, ou [...] exsurgence, caractérisée par un débit qui peut être considérable, mais qui est très variable [...] C'est en somme l'apparition, ou la réapparition à l'air libre d'un cours d'eau souterrain dont on a parfois aménagé la sortie pour l'utilisation humaine, la «fontaine» se distinguant de la «source» par cet aménagement qui permet de recueillir l'eau plus aisément.

OBS

«Source» a été longtemps en concurrence avec «fontaine» [...] Rappelons d'ailleurs que ladite fontaine de Vaucluse est le type de source vauclusienne.
