The member is responsible for: providing administrative support and liaison between the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and the External Review Committee (ERC) on all matters involving Parts III, IV and V of the RCMP Act and related legislation; preparing advice for the Commissioner of the RCMP regarding ERC findings and recommendations on referable Level II grievances, discipline appeals, and discharge and demotion appeals; reviewing and providing written and oral briefings on case files, compiling the Commissioner’s reasons into a decision and preparing related correspondence; assisting in disseminating the Commissioner’s decisions and ensuring that regions, divisions and policy centers take appropriate action to comply with the Commissioner’s directions and commitments; and instructing and assisting Department of Justice litigation counsel with defence of the Commissioner’s decisions that are under judicial review.
