The International Maritime Academy (IMA) of Trieste is an international institution in the training field for postgraduate studies. Its courses are aimed at participants with a university degree or equivalent education who already work in the Government structures but need some further training to improve the quality of their work. Students come from all over the world. The working language is English. In march 1988 in Rome, the Italian Foreign Minister, and the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), signed an international agreement for the setting up of the International Maritime Academy of Trieste to be funded by the Co-operation and Development Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
