On appelait ancre de détroit, ou installée en galère, celle qui était tenue sous le beaupré par son orin. Cette disposition employée sur les voiliers dans les détroits ainsi que dans les mers peu profondes, où les calmes et les courants forçaient à des mouillages fréquents, rendaient les appareillages aussi faciles que rapides.
