Hydrogen chloride and inorganic chlorides are introduced into the troposphere by volcanic emissions, by seaspray evaporation and by human activity. Removal of these compounds by rain is so rapid that their concentrations decrease rapidly with altitude. Molecular chlorine (Cl2) escaping from industrial processes is also rapidly removed by chemical processes in the atmosphere. 3, record 1, English, - chlorine
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
chlorine: form recommended by the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) for the systematic name corresponding to the CAS number indicated on the present record; term adopted by Environment Canada: used in the list of pollutants measured in the National Air Pollution Surveillance Network (NAPS). Formula: Cl2. Also designates atomic chlorine, the chemical element having the symbol Cl. 4, record 1, English, - chlorine
