An atmospheric optical phenomenon, particularly in the polar regions, in which the observer appears to be engulfed in a uniformly white glow owing to the lack of contrast between the sky and the surface; shadows, horizon and clouds are not discernible, and the sense of depth and orientation are lost. 4, record 36, English, - whiteout
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Whiteout occurs over an unbroken snow cover and beneath a uniformly overcast sky, when, with the aid of the snow blink effect, the light from the sky is about equal to that from the snow surface. Blowing snow may be an additional cause. 5, record 36, English, - whiteout

Today the term whiteout is [also] often used to describe a blizzard or snowsquall when blowing snow has reduced visibility to a few metres. But this is not a true whiteout. True whiteouts occur mostly in the Arctic and the Antarctic when unbroken snow cover and a uniformly overcast sky combine to produce a solid white glow. People in whiteouts see no shadows or horizon and lose all sense of depth and orientation. 6, record 36, English, - whiteout

Record number: 36, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 1 OBS
5, record 36, French, - voile%20blanc
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 2 OBS

2, record 54, Spanish, - tomograf%C3%ADa%20axial%20computarizada

The north westerlies of summer force humid air to rise against the western mountains, causing heavy rain in the west ... As the air sinks down on the eastern side of the mountains, it warms and the clouds quite often disperse. This is called the foehn effect and in summer it brings a hot, dry and very trying wind for a while to the Canterbury Plains inland of Christchurch. Then the wind becomes a southerly and for the rest of the year it brings cooler fresher air. 5, record 70, English, - foehn%20effect

1, record 72, Spanish, - angiograf%C3%ADa%20digital

Enteroclysis. Placing a nasointestinal tube with the tip near the duodenojejunal junction and introducing the barium at this site has a number of advantages. With this method there is no overlap of the stomach on the small bowel and there is complete control of the flow of barium through the small intestine. During the filling of the bowel, each segment can be observed under the fluoroscope. This small-bowel enema (enteroclysis) has the disadvantages of increased patient discomfort associated with the tube and usually more radiation exposure. 3, record 82, English, - enteroclysis
