The patient's corneal epithelium is removed and a donor's corneal disc (or lenticule) that was previously frozen and reshaped to produce a new anterior curvature is rehydrated and sutured to Bowman's membrane. The lenticule can be removed and exchanged to provide a different power. L'épikératophakie. Il s'agit d'une intervention dérivée de la kératophakie et proposée par Kaufmann. Le lenticule, usiné par sa face stromale afin de préserver la membrane de Bowman, est posé après pelage de l'épithélium sur la membrane de Bowman de la cornée réceptrice. Grâce à un sillon circulaire préalablement préparé, le lenticule peut s'incorporer dans un anneau limitant et être suturé par un surjet de monofilament.
