Record 1 2022-10-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Botany
  • Plant Biology
DEF

A diploid multicellular form of plants that produces spores.

CONT

A sporophyte develops from an embryo resulting from the union of two gametes. Each of its cells has two sets of chromosomes, as opposed to the haploid gametophyte generation.

  • Biologie végétale
DEF

Record 4 2003-09-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

Apomixis in which the reproductive function of the gametes is taken over by unspecialized cells.

CONT

Various forms of apomixis occur. One of the leading form is apogamy. In apogamy the embryo develops from two haploid nuclei other than the eggs. Commonly apogamy results from fusion of two cells of the embryo sac, either synergids or antipodals.

French

DEF

Record 5 2003-09-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
CONT

The most important tropical forages are Brachiaria spp. Existing cultivars are natural, polyploid, aposporous apomicts. Breeding programs seek to combine attributes from the tetraploid apomicts B. brizantha and B. decumbens. Apomixis is monogenic and dominant. We sought to synthesize an allogomous, sexual, breeding population containing germplasm from selected apomicts. Apospory was not detected in a large open-pollinated progeny of sexual hybrids from sexual-by-apomictic crosses.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF
